What is WAICY

The World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY) is a global competition challenging students to learn and use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to solve real problems. The competition opens to students from Grade 4 to 12 from all around the world. Each year, the competition has a unique theme. In 2018, the theme was “how to make the world better with AI”.

The WAICY aims to bring AI to students all around the world and spark creative, innovative, and artistic demonstrations of the technology that is able to make a change to the future.

Bricknowland have joined hands with Ready AI and Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science to host the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY 2019) at regional and national level in U.A.E and U.S.A

The Process

5-Day Workshop and Regional Competition

Bricknowland provides toolkits and curriculum for students to prepare for the competition. During this five day workshop, students can learn about the concepts of AI and the 6 aspects of AI that’s been defined by the top AI researchers from Carnegie Mellon Universities.

By the end of the workshop, students can be able to use tools like Cozmo to program and compete. The winning teams will be selected for the 4-Day national level advanced workshop and world level competition.

1-Day World Competition (WAICY)

The final competition takes place at the end of July each year. WAICY 2019 will be held on 25th July 2019 in U.A.E. During the one day competition, the judges will overview all the selected works from national-finals.

WAICY 2018

On July 28, 2018. over 200 students participated in the 2018 World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY 2018) at the Jared L. Cohon University Center, a hub of the Carnegie Mellon University campus, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
